Director of Football
From September of 2011 Catholic are very pleased to announce the appointment of Iain O'Connell as Director of Football, with a responsibility to focus on the 11-a-side teams. The management committee have believed for some time now that the more complex, technical challenges presented by the full scale game can initially be quite daunting for players and coaches alike and a voice of experience would not go amiss. Not only has Iain a wealth of experience of coaching young players throughout his career, he has been involved in the professional game both as a player and a manager all his life.
Signed by Southend in 1987 with a year as a full time pro, in 1990 he went on to feature in Chris Kinnear's Dover Athletic team for the majority of the time playing Conference football. That was followed by six years at Margate , a spell at Chelmsford City followed by seven years as a manager of Great Wakering. He went back to Margate as manager in 2010 but was to leave the club during the latter part of that season.
